Gli alberi sono esseri viventi magnifici e profondamente simbolici nella loro estetica, la loro grafia affascina e suggestiona l'uomo fin dalla notte dei tempi.

Avendo la fortuna di avere tra le mani uno splendido mazzo di carte, reinterpretazione di un antico mazzo di Tarocchi del quattrocento elaborato nella corte degli Estensi a Ferrara, uno dei più antichi mazzi di carte prodotti, di cui in originale sopravvivono solamente alcune carte conservate nella Biblioteca Nazionale di Parigi, non posso che trarre profonda ammirazione ed incanto per questi piccoli capolavori miniati, in particolare mi voglio soffermare su alcune carte che ritraggono gli alberi: sono immagini quasi magiche, che incantano e non ci si stanca mai di ammirarle e di meditare al loro cospetto, sono immagini che ci parlano e ci trasmettono profonde energie, come gli alberi stessi. Peccato che la fotografia non renda giustizia a queste carte, nell'immagine infatti non si può godere appieno dello sfavillio dell'oro brillante che fa da sfondo a questi piccoli capolavori: dal vivo, mosse sotto la luce, brillano con lampi di calda luce dorata, magica. Si rimane estasiati da tanta profonda bellezza, soprattutto perchè è una bellezza simbolica che affonda le radici nella nostra anima, come gli alberi affondano le radici nella nostra Terra.

Posso dire che ci si può innamorare di queste carte ? Al di la del pensiero sempre legittimo di ognuno di noi, per quanto si possa essere scettici, o all'opposto abbracciare una visione magica della vita (come abbracciare un albero), è innegabile che queste carte abbiano una valenza molto profonda sotto diversi punti di vista: dal punto di vista storico e culturale, a quello artistico, e in considerazione delle immagini e delle arcane simbologie che rappresentano, anche dal punto di vista psicologico ed emozionale (Jung insegna a tal proposito).

Nessuna branca del sapere e della cultura umane sono custodi della Verità, ma ogni ramificazione ha un suo senso, un nocciolo di verità al suo interno. La scienza stessa a mio avviso ha un grande limite, si proclama obiettiva e sperimentale tagliando arbitrariamente fuori dalla scena un ingrediente fondamentale: l'uomo stesso ! Non considerando che lo sperimentatore stesso influenza l'ambiente che lo circonda e i risultati che ottiene. L'obiettività e l'oggettività probabilmente non esistono, e forse non avrebbe nemmeno senso che esistano, dal momento che esistiamo noi !

Ma torniamo ora ai nostri amati alberi: la prima carta che voglio presentarvi  è l'Asso di Bastoni, in questa miniatura molto suggestiva un uomo ben vesisto riposa, o medita, comodamente accovacciato sui rami di un albero (un nobile? un santo? un angelo? un alchimista? ), sembra tranquillo e al sicuro, l'albero lo solleva da terra e lo innanza verso il cielo, dove un magnifico sole dorato espande i suoi sfolgoranti raggi: la saggezza e la forza della Natura, che dona conoscenza e pace interiore, e porta al germogliare di nuove idee e della nostra spiritualità. E' un'immagine che personalmente trovo incantevole, carica di significati, e dove ognuno ci può ritrovare una parte di sé.

Altra carta molto bella che riguarda la Natura e gli alberi è questo otto di Bastoni, dove un uomo, tramita una lunga scala, raggiunge la cima di un albero spoglio, quindi forse siamo in autunno, per riempire di "frutti" alcuni cestini. Essendo l'albero spoglio, possiamo anche interpretare l'immagine in senso metaforico, forse i veri frutti da raccogliere sono quelli spirituali, e non quelli materiali che la Natura offre in primavera ! Gli alberi e la Natura ci nutrono non solo in senso fisico, non solo donandoci l'ossigeno che ci è indispensabile per respirare, ma nutrono anche la nostra anima, nutrono i nostri bisogni spirituali ed energetici. 

Il numero otto nella carta è rappresentato dai pioli della scala, e questa carta in se simboleggia obiettivi molto elevati, a volte irraggiungibili, come può essere la comprensione della Natura e del nostro rapporto profondo con essa, facile a dirsi a parole, ma ben altra cosa comprenderlo e metterlo in pratica nella vita concreta. I frutti migliori sono invisibili agli occhi e difficili da raccogliere, ma il personaggio nell'asso di bastoni sembra essere riuscito nell'impresa.

Un'altra bella carta che evoca il mondo vegetale e gli alberi è questo bel Fante di Bastoni, intento a potare e prendersi cura di quelle che sembrano viti, che un giorno gli daranno succosi frutti od un'ombra ristoratrice. Una particolare incuriosisce e attira l'attenzione: non appare ben chiaro se il paggio porti delle calze ai polpacci, o se siano i calzoni che sono abbassati o caduti, in tal caso il nostro paggio avrebbe le parti intime libere e al vento ! In molte carte antiche sono raffigurati personaggi vestiti, che hanno però i calzoni abbassati, o aperti, in modo da mostrare al vento il sedere o le parti intime, ma questo è un altro discorso che mi riservo di fare prossimamente. Dobbiamo ricordare che i bastoni sono un seme che ci riconduce alle forze istintive della Terra, alle nostre energie primordiali, alle pulsioni e alla sessualità, al fuoco che abbiamo dentro, alle passioni e alla forza creativa, che genera e germoglia, come gli alberi per l'appunto, forti e vitali.

Infine molto bello anche il sei di Bastoni, dove questa nobile signora mostra generosamente i seni, simbolo di nutrimento, della Madre Terra, circondata da un vigneto con i suoi frutti. Tiene nella mano sinistra, come fosse una cosa preziosa da mostrare con orgoglio, un qualcosa di non ben identificabile, ma di colore verde, quindi di sicura origine vegetale, mentre nella mano destra innzalza il ciuffo di una pianta, sembrerebbe quasi una pannocchia di mais, se non fosse che siamo ancora nel millequattrocento ! E' una bella immagine di prosperità e abbondanza, una prosperità che non arriva a caso, ma è il frutto del lavoro, della dedizione e dell'amore, quel lavoro iniziato dal Fante di Bastoni, di cui qui se ne colgono i frutti preziosi. Anche in questo caso tutto può essere letto in senso metaforico e su più livelli.

Si può avere un rapporto magico e simbolico con la Natura e con le forze che la governano, e che ci governano, e queste antiche carte ci aiutano a capirlo e ad approcciarci in questo rapporto. Forse questa magia è una sorta di scenza più inclusiva, mentre la scienza meccanicistica interpreta il mondo escludendo di fatto l'uomo e la sua anima, la magia interpreta l'interazione dell'uomo con il mondo, come parte integrante ed inscindibile dei processi e del cosmo. Quella che gli antichi chiamavano magia, e che oggi a noi fa sorridere e probabilmente rievoca solo le scene di Harry Potter, in realtà ha molte analogie con la moderna fisica quantistica, molto più di quanto immaginiamo, e questo è incredibile, perchè in realtà ci fa capire che l'uomo moderno, con tutto il suo armamentario tecnologico, non scopre, ma riscopre. 

Allora si capisce che non abbiamo poi tanto da vantarci nell'essere moderni: solo sterile vanità !

Trees are magnificent living beings, deep symbolic in their aesthetics, their handwriting has fascinated and influenced man since the dawn of time.

Having the good fortune of having in his hands a splendid deck of cards, reinterpretation of an ancient Tarot deck of the fifteenth century elaborated in the Este court in Ferrara, one of the oldest decks of cards produced, of which only few cards original exist, presered in the National Library of Paris, I can only draw deep admiration and enchantment for these small illuminated masterpieces, in particular I want to dwell on some cards that portray the trees: they are almost magical images, which enchant and one never tires of admiring and meditating in their presence, they are images that speak to us and transmit deep energies to us, like the trees themselves. Too bad that photography does not do justice to these cards, in fact, in the image you cannot fully enjoy the sparkle of brilliant gold that is the background to these small masterpieces: moved under the light, they shine with flashes of warm golden light, amagical light. I'm entranced by such profound beauty, especially because it is a symbolic beauty that has its deep roots in our soul, as trees have their roots in our deep Earth.

Can I say that i can fall in love with these cards? Beyond the always legitimate thought of each of us, however skeptical we may be, or on the contrary embrace a magical vision of life (like hugging a tree), it is undeniable that these cards have a very profound value under different points of view: from the historical and cultural point of view, to the artistic one, and in consideration of the images and arcane symbols they represent, also from the psychological and emotional point of view (Jung teaches about this).

No branch of human knowledge and culture are custodians of the Truth, but each branch has its own meaning, a kernel of truth within it. In my opinion, science itself has a great limitation, it proclaims itself to be objective and experimental by arbitrarily cutting out of the scene a fundamental ingredient: man himself! Not considering that the experimenter himself influences the environment around him and the results he gets. Objectivity and objectivity probably don't exist, and maybe it wouldn't even make sense for them to exist, since we do exist!

But now let's go back to our beloved trees: the first card I want to present to you is the Ace of Wands, in this very suggestive miniature a well-dressed man rests, or meditates, comfortably crouched on the branches of a tree (a noble? A saint? A angel? an alchemist?), seems calm and safe, the tree lifts him from the ground and propels him towards the sky, where a magnificent golden sun expands its dazzling rays: the wisdom and strength of Nature, which gives knowledge and inner peace, and leads to the sprouting of new ideas and our spirituality. It is an image that I personally find enchanting, full of meanings, and where everyone can find a part of themselves.

Another very beautiful card concerning Nature and trees is this eight of Wands, where a man, through a long ladder, reaches the top of a bare tree, so perhaps we are in autumn, to fill some baskets with "fruit". Since the tree is bare, we can also interpret the image in a metaphorical sense, perhaps the real fruits to be harvested are the spiritual ones, and not the material ones that Nature offers in spring! Trees and Nature nourish us not only in a physical sense, not only by giving us the oxygen we need to breathe, but they also nourish our soul, nourish our spiritual and energetic needs.

The number eight in the card is represented by the rungs of the ladder, and this card itself symbolizes very high goals, sometimes unattainable, such as the understanding of Nature and our deep relationship with it, easy to say in words, but very different. what to understand it and put it into practice in concrete life. The best fruits are invisible to the eye and difficult to harvest, but the character in the ace of clubs appears to have succeeded.

Another beautiful card that evokes the plant world and trees is this handsome Knave of Wands, intent on pruning and caring for what look like vines, which one day will give him juicy fruit or a refreshing shade. One particular intrigues and attracts attention: it is not clear whether the page wears calf socks, or whether it is the trousers that are lowered or fallen, in which case our page would have his private parts free and blowing in the wind! Many ancient cards depict dressed characters, who, however, have their trousers lowered, or open, in order to show their buttocks or private parts to the wind, but this is another discussion that I reserve the right to make shortly. We must remember that the Wands are a seed that leads us back to the instinctive forces of the Earth, to our primordial energies, to the drives and sexuality, to the fire we have inside, to the passions and the creative force, which generates and sprouts, like trees for in fact, strong and vital.

Finally, the six of Wands is also very beautiful, where this noble lady generously shows her breasts, a symbol of nourishment, of the Mother Earth, surrounded by a vineyard with its fruits. He holds in his left hand, as if it were a precious thing to proudly show, something that is not clearly identifiable, but of a green color, therefore of sure vegetable origin, while in his right hand he raises the tuft of a plant, it would seem almost a cob of corn , were it not that we are still in the fourteenth century! It is a beautiful image of prosperity and abundance, a prosperity that does not come by chance, but is the fruit of work, dedication and love, that work begun by the Knave of Batons, whose precious fruits are gathered here. Also in this case everything can be read in a metaphorical sense and on several levels.

You can have a magical and symbolic relationship with Nature and with the forces that govern it, and that govern us, and these ancient papers help us to understand it and to approach this relationship. Perhaps this magic is a kind of more inclusive science, while mechanistic science interprets the world effectively excluding man and his soul, magic interprets man's interaction with the world, as an integral and inseparable part of the processes. and the cosmos. What the ancients called magic, and which today makes us smile and probably evokes only the Harry Potter scenes, actually has many similarities with modern quantum physics, much more than we imagine, and this is incredible, because in reality we makes it clear that modern man, with all his technological paraphernalia, does not discover, but rediscovers.

Then we understand that we don't have much to boast about being modern: only sterile vanity !
