Travel dairy

La pianura di cui si è parlato si estende a mezzogiorno per cinque giornate, e alla fine si arriva ad un'altra discesa lunga venti miglia: le strade sono pessime, infestate di briganti e molto pericolose. Al termine di quest'ultima discesa si trova una pianura che dura due giornate di cammino. Vi sono freschi corsi d'acqua, datteri ed altri frutti, pappagalli e francolini ed altri uccelli diversi da quelli che conosciamo.

Gli abitanti di qui credono che si possa senza peccato giacere con una donna se è stata lei a fare l'offerta d'amore, e invece che sia peccato se è l'uomo a richiedere la donna. Trenta mogli possono prendersi, più o meno secondo la loro ricchezza, e si possono prendere per mogli le cugine e anche le mogli del padre salvo però la madre.

E ora partendo da qui andremo sessanta giornate verso tramontana...
